The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition in the Polish context

In 2021, the Polish government reaffirmed its support for the IHRA working, non-legally binding definition of antisemitism in a statement issued by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

“Poland, as a member of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, supported in 2016 the Alliance’s adoption of the working, non-legally binding definition of antisemitism. This means that Poland recognizes the IHRA working, non-legally binding definition of antisemitism as an important and self-evident point of reference in countering this phenomenon.”

What does this mean? How should this definition be understood in the Polish context? How can we use it, and how can it support the actions we take at school, at work, and in social or private life?

We present a short brochure designed to help answer these questions and explain why adopting and applying a universal, internationally recognized definition in Poland supports the prevention of and fight against antisemitism, as well as a better understanding of this phenomenon.

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism in the Polish context: practical application and examples.
