On November 22, 2019, representatives of the Association participated in a working meeting titled “Combating Intolerant Discourse, Hate Speech, and Hate Crimes in the Visegrad Group” in Prague. The aim of the meeting was to exchange experiences and views on combating hate speech in the Visegrad Group countries.
The topics discussed at the meeting included the fight against xenophobia, racism, discrimination, and intolerance, as well as the possibilities for cooperation between the countries of the region in this area.
The working meeting aimed to provide civil society organizations with the opportunity to (1) examine the tools available to them for countering intolerant discourse, hate speech, and hate crimes, (2) explore the challenges faced by civil society organizations in the Visegrad region, (3) discuss actions taken by civil society organizations to address these challenges, (4) develop a list of best practices for CSOs in combating xenophobic, racist, discriminatory, and intolerant discourse, and (5) assess the potential for regional cooperation.
The working meeting was co-organized by the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) of the OSCE and the Special Advisers to the UN Secretary-General on the Prevention of Genocide and the Responsibility to Protect.
