Jewish Lliterary Salon

The Jewish Literary Salon was an important part of the cultural life of Kraków’s Kazimierz district, which successfully operated from 2006 to 2014. It was a place for open discussions about literature, as well as for meetings with Jewish writers or authors writing about Jews.

These meetings provided an opportunity to discover contemporary literature, gain a deeper understanding of it, and engage in conversations on important, sometimes difficult, topics. The broad range of Jewish themes covered included the history of Jews, life in Israel, politics, religion, art, as well as contemporary Jewish life and the issue of identity.

The creators presented their perspectives on literature, art, and Jewish culture, with the audience often actively participating in the discussions. The March meeting with Agnieszka Graff was included in the nationwide program of events related to March 8th, organized by the 8th of March Women’s Alliance.

In 2009, we expanded the format of the salon by inviting photographer, journalist, and critic Wojtek Wilczyk, in connection with the release of his new photo album on synagogues in Poland. In doing so, we initiated meetings with creators of visual arts.
