REMU Jewish ReMU

The collection was available to a wide audience, enabling a comprehensive understanding of Jewish culture in a way free from stereotypes. Currently, the library is no longer publicly accessible; due to limited funding, the association has decided to restrict access to members of the Jewish community in Krakow.

The library’s collection was divided into more than twenty thematic sections (including the State of Israel, memoirs, biographies, prose, poetry, identity and gender, as well as children’s and young adult literature). The collection included books in Polish, Hebrew, Yiddish, and English.

Preserving the memory of Jewish life in Poland and disseminating knowledge about Jewish culture and history constituted one of the library’s core missions.

Between 2013 and 2017, the Library organized meetings for children focused on Jewish literature. During these sessions, children had the opportunity to listen to Jewish stories and tales presented by cultural figures, as well as to take part in philosophical, acting, and art workshops.

The Library’s collection comprises over 6,000 volumes, thanks to donations from both private individuals and publishing houses that contributed books.

The Library was recognized as a “Reading-Friendly Place” by the Znaczy Się Foundation for New Art.

Interested individuals could also get involved in the Library’s activities through volunteering or internships.
