Securing Our Community, Protecting Our Democracy: Combating Antisemitism Through an Integrated Approach to Advocacy and Security
The project “Securing Our Community, Protecting Our Democracy” is an initiative of the Jewish Association Czulent focused on countering antisemitism in the digital space. Its aim is to enhance the safety of the Jewish community in Poland and to reduce the impact of online hate speech on social and democratic life.
The project is based on the premise that antisemitism—particularly in online environments—poses a real threat not only to minority groups, but also to the stability of democratic institutions, public safety, and the quality of public discourse.
Online monitoring, legal analysis, and standards for countering illegal content
As part of the project, activities combining online content monitoring, legal analysis, and advocacy were carried out. A study was conducted on the functioning of selected digital platforms and social media services in terms of their responses to antisemitic hate speech and other illegal content.
The analysis was based on the Polish Criminal Code, the EU Digital Services Act (DSA), and the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism. The project also included a comparison of solutions applied in Poland and at the international level, identifying both good practices and gaps in content moderation systems.
Project impact and strengthening the accountability of digital platforms
The activities carried out within the project contribute to increasing awareness of the scale and nature of antisemitism online and strengthen the capacities of institutions and organizations to respond to hate speech. The project supports the development of accountability standards for digital platforms, promotes effective mechanisms for reporting and removing illegal content, and reinforces advocacy efforts aimed at ensuring a safer online environment.
The initiative was co-funded by the European Union and the Foundation “Remembrance, Responsibility and Future” (EVZ), highlighting its international dimension and significance in the context of protecting human rights in the digital sphere.
